Risks and limitations

What to consider

Every treatment has benefits and risks. These are the main ones to know about.
  • Preparing teeth for porcelain veneers removes a thin layer of enamel, which can’t be undone
  • Teeth can feel sensitive for a while after preparation
  • Porcelain can chip or come loose, especially if you grind your teeth
  • Veneers don’t last forever and will eventually need replacing
  • Veneers won’t change colour with whitening

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. We’ll talk through the ones that apply to you before anything goes ahead, and you’re always welcome to get a second opinion.

Questions

Your questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Give us a call on 09 570 2823 or email reception@classicsdental.com, and we’ll get back to you.

How long do veneers last?

Many years with good care. Porcelain can chip, so it’s best to avoid biting hard objects, and to wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Will veneers damage my teeth?

Porcelain veneers need a thin layer of enamel removed, which can’t be replaced. Composite veneers sometimes need little or no preparation, and we’ll talk you through both.

Can I whiten my teeth afterwards?

Veneers won’t change colour with whitening, so we usually whiten your other teeth first.
