Who full-arch
implants can help

Most people who are suitable have several failing teeth, or have been wearing a denture for some time. Your 3D scan tells us how much bone you have to work with.

Risks and limitations

What to consider

Every treatment has benefits and risks. These are the main ones to know about.
  • The same surgical risks as a single implant, across several sites
  • Swelling and tenderness for several days, with a soft diet while things settle
  • Speech and eating can take a few weeks to adjust to
  • The bridge can chip, wear or loosen over time and may need repair
  • Cleaning around and under the bridge is essential to keep the implants healthy

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. We’ll talk through the ones that apply to you before anything goes ahead, and you’re always welcome to get a second opinion.

Costs

You’ll get a written, itemised plan before anything goes ahead. Interest-free payment plans, Q Card, Southern Cross Easy-claim and WINZ quotes are available.

Questions

Your questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Give us a call on 09 570 2823 or email reception@classicsdental.com, and we’ll get back to you.

How many implants will I need?

Usually four to six per arch, depending on your bone and bite. Your scan and plan will show the number that’s right for you.

How do I look after my new teeth?

We’ll show you how to clean around and under your bridge, usually with small brushes and a water flosser, and see you for regular maintenance visits. If you grind your teeth, a night guard helps protect it.

I've been told I don't have enough bone. Can I still have it?

Sometimes. Implants can often be angled to make the most of the bone you have, and grafting may help. Your 3D scan will tell us what’s possible.

Is it better than a denture?

It’s fixed in place, so it won’t move around or cover your palate. It costs more, and it needs careful cleaning and regular check-ups to stay healthy.

Does the surgery hurt?

It’s done under local anaesthetic, and many people choose IV sedation as well. You can expect some swelling and tenderness for several days afterwards.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually several months from surgery to your final teeth. Your plan will set out each stage.

Can the bridge be removed?

You can’t take it out yourself. It’s usually designed so we can remove it at maintenance visits if needed.
